The short answer: it depends on what happens after the first send
For a one-off transfer, size and availability may decide everything. SwissTransfer has a high free limit; Smash advertises no file-size limit; TransferNow combines password protection and tracking with a simple send.
FilesUp addresses a different problem: sharing repeatedly with the same person without losing the message, delivered files and activity across separate links. Each new delivery continues in a conversation by email, phone or topic.
The quotas below are not directly equivalent. Some services limit each transfer, others a rolling 30-day window; FilesUp provides capacity for all active shares in the account. We keep each provider's original unit to avoid manufacturing a misleading comparison.

Is FilesUp always better than WeTransfer?
No. FilesUp is more useful for repeat sharing where you want to preserve the conversation. For an occasional delivery in a familiar tool, WeTransfer may still be enough.
What is the best free alternative to WeTransfer?
It depends on the goal. FilesUp for context and continuity; SwissTransfer for a one-off transfer up to 50 GB; Smash when size is the main criterion; TransferNow for up to 5 GB with a password and tracking.
Why do you not rank the services from first to last?
Because their limits use different models and user needs differ too. A single ranking would hide important differences between capacity per account, per transfer and per period.
